Iv been walking along this street in Goteborg for month now & this one shop always catches me eye. Its more like a studio/shop, really long & thin. In the window there's a strip light hanging vertically above these amazing all leather handbags with big zips & contrasting metals. The shapes of the bags are really unusual.
The delicate design goes with this Swedish sense of style that is so distinguished; Simple, almost practical with sensitive yet confident characteristics.
WOODY ALLEN'S HOLLYWOOD ALTERNATIVE TYPE MELODRAMATIC SHENANIGANS SEEM TO BE THE PERFECT DOSE OF ESCAPISM AT PRESENT!
I'm reading this collection of his short stories at the moment.
Its very Woody!
Full of half glass empty charismatic characters getting into definite fictional mayhem with witty outcomes.
Short story style seems to make Allen's fast-paced writing better digestible.
'La Conga Blicoti'- Josephine Baker
This is a track from a great scene in Allen's 2011 movie 'Midnight in Paris'.
The film is a true escapists rendition; it portrays an all too familiar romantic notion of highlighting certain eras with a 'Golden' lust.
The film contrasts the present-days pretentious egos, using perfectly grating characters, with the free-thinking, value rich 1920's. Owen Wilson is suitably cast as a writer aching for an era of better value.
It is the perfect movie to dedicate an afternoon to ( that way it feels luxurious & escapist, in keeping with the film).
'Play it Again, Sam' - Dir - Herbert Ross/ Writer- Woody Allen
'Play it Again, Sam' matched my escapist mood perfectly this week.
IT IS A TRUE GEM!
It is the classic tale of love lost & new love found, with Woody Allen playing a character of almost certifiable actions; a San Fran' creative who's wit just saves him when it matters.
The beauty of this film is the absolute tribute to 'Casablanca' & Humphrey Bogart throughout, in honorable & hilarious manner.
(Bogart plays Allen's imaginative wing-man, sort of like 'Clarence's' imaginary Elvis in the movie 'True Romance', sort of acting as 'Honorary Gods')
It is a great all out 'Hollywood' romance with undertones of honesty & universal self, conscious charm.
However, as someone says, everyday life; the life we create around oneself can be just as creative as painting a masterpiece! So my creativity fell in the form of my thread choices!
I think ,with the spring sun saying 'Hey' all over the world & the mass snow that was EVERYWHERE in Sweden lifting giving way to completely new sights & sounds, I must of been affected, as i opted for my denim cut offs. However the winds still ablowin' so some leggings had to do their job. The tribal patterned choice may also have been down to opting out of all-black winter wear.
Creative dressing is pretty much something we all do; the minute we wake we make decisive choices to reflect our moods, & then into our food choices, our communication, our relationships & our routines!
Having been in Sweden now for 3 weeks I have learnt the weather definitely rebels against consistency, Swedish winter style on the other hand seems to be consistently creative!
Boys & Girls, Teen-He & Teen-She, Men & Women; the threads they wear here are beauties.
Its something about the cut, the inconspicuous darker shades, the sweet fishermen hats & the tiny details like a fur trim here & a turned up hem there.
I see the collective style of Sweden as a mature, sophisticated & practical (they would be wild not to dress for warmth) genre, with rare falter yet signs of attention are slight. Interestingly no projection of major wealth diversity is depicted, every style is self-respectful.
I am excited to see the seasons blossom here & the street style with them!
It’s enlightening
a way of routine creativity that is mature and honest! THANK GOODNNESS! A
common assumption of creativity production is that it is sporadic, spontaneous
& wildly uncontrolled; this is NOT true in many cases. (In the case of Van
Gogh & his manic ear cutting ways, yes it may have been wild.)
I have often considered the thought that it may even be this
‘bohemian like manner’ of working that stops creativity dead in its tracks,
replacing it with intimidation! Realising that creativity can be controlled
& planned to progress productivity in seemingly routine ways should be
shouted from the rooftops! There is a definite point where an idea you were
once kept from sleeping for the excitement of its possibilities may change, due
to a creativity block or visual discernment, to something you dread paying any
attention to. The method of organising into manageable movements is a great way
to get psyched by the project again & to feel like you are acting towards
its completion. Feeling that you are productive regains confidence & faith;
it re-boosts you with the brilliant idea you had at first! YES! A mantra I
always try to tell myself when I am lacking in creative faith is to ‘Just Do’!
Take away the conceptual depth, reconnect with what you want to do & DO IT.
Thought is a good thing to stop & contemplate; too much thinking during
moments of making & it easily turns to doing that thing that’s completely
unrelated (we all have our guilty indulges).
Taking the contemplation process as a time for itself after a period of
‘doing’ is a good way to gain more value & less procrastinating! Another
way to run with this mantra is even if you have no initial idea but are
propelled by an impending need to create, then don’t think until after, ‘JUST
DO’, the outcome may be a MASTERPIECE that the world must see, or a bit of a
confusion but you will have done it, & that will take you further!
So yes, take this routine organisational movement & go
forth!
THIS IMAGE IS REALLY QUITE EERY & MYSTERIOUS. I TOOK IT LATE LAST NIGHT AS THE SNOW BEGAN TO FALL (AGAIN) I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO CAPTURE FALLING SNOW BEFORE, BUT THERE WAS A LIGHT UP HIGH ILLUMINATING THE DROPS PERFECTLY.
WHAT MAKES IT INTERESTING IS THE ARCHITECTURE & HISTORY OF THE BUILDING. ITS AN OLD EPIDEMIC HOSPITAL BUILDING THAT HAS BEEN USED AS ARTIST STUDIOS FOR THE LAST 20+ YEARS! THERE PRETTY RUNDOWN BUT MAKE FOR CUTE CABINS. THERE'S A 100 OF THESE CABINS ALL HUDDLED TOGETHER INTIMATELY.
THE STILLNESS OF THE BUILDING AND THE MOTION OF THE SNOW MAKE AN INTERESTING CONTRAST, AS IF TAKEN A LONG TIME AGO!
