WOODY ALLEN AS ESCAPISM

WOODY ALLEN'S HOLLYWOOD ALTERNATIVE TYPE MELODRAMATIC SHENANIGANS SEEM TO BE THE PERFECT DOSE OF ESCAPISM AT PRESENT!

I'm reading this collection of his short stories at the moment.
Its very Woody!
Full of half glass empty charismatic characters getting into definite fictional mayhem with witty outcomes.
Short story style seems to make Allen's fast-paced writing better digestible.

 'La Conga Blicoti'- Josephine Baker

This is a track from a great scene in Allen's 2011 movie 'Midnight in Paris'.
The film is a true escapists rendition; it portrays an all too familiar romantic notion of highlighting certain eras with a 'Golden' lust.
The film contrasts the present-days pretentious egos, using perfectly grating characters, with the free-thinking, value rich 1920's. Owen Wilson is suitably cast as a writer aching for an era of better value.
It is the perfect movie to dedicate an afternoon to ( that way it feels luxurious & escapist, in keeping with the film).

'Play it Again, Sam' - Dir - Herbert Ross/ Writer- Woody Allen

'Play it Again, Sam' matched my escapist mood perfectly this week.
IT IS A TRUE GEM!
It is the classic tale of love lost & new love found, with Woody Allen playing a character of almost certifiable actions; a San Fran' creative who's wit just saves him when it matters.
The beauty of this film is the absolute tribute to 'Casablanca' & Humphrey Bogart throughout, in honorable & hilarious manner.
(Bogart plays Allen's imaginative wing-man, sort of like 'Clarence's' imaginary Elvis in the movie 'True Romance', sort of acting as 'Honorary Gods')

It is a great all out 'Hollywood' romance with undertones of honesty & universal self, conscious charm.

ENJOY!
